For decades, Italy has been grappling with a whirlwind of continuous electoral reforms, to the point that the “Italian case” has drawn the attention of the Strasbourg Court. And the process seems far from over, as the transitional provisions of the so-called “premiership reform” stipulate that, without a new revision of the electoral law, the constitutional reform cannot come into force.
The aim? Strengthening the stability of the executive. But is there an electoral system that can effectively meet this need?
The lecture aims to examine the various approaches and solutions currently under discussion, analysing their implications from a constitutional perspective.
